A day tour that uncovers the less touristy side of Istanbul: the Golden Horn and its historic neighbourhoods. We start with a ferry trip from Karaköy up the Golden Horn, taking in unique views of the districts and bridges that link the two shores.
We ride the cable car up to Pierre Loti Hill — a legendary viewpoint named after the French writer. There we enjoy a complimentary Turkish tea or coffee with the best panorama of the Golden Horn. We then descend on foot through the historic Ottoman cemetery to the Eyüp Sultan Mosque and Tomb, one of the holiest places in the Islamic world.
After free time in Eyüp, we take the tram to Balat. We walk through its cobbled streets, colourful houses and churches — including St. George Church, seat of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. Optional visit to the Iron Church of St. Stephen. A cultural, religious and photographic tour all at once, in a small bilingual group.
We start at Karaköy Pier on the Golden Horn waterfront, next to the modern Galataport.
